On Friday 8 April, 2016 the modernised Narromine Irrigation Board of Management (NIBM) scheme was officially opened by the Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton.
A large crowd gathered at NIBM’s Narromine headquarters to see the official opening. Chairman of NIBM, Mark Dugan, spoke of the large amount of time and effort that had gone in to making the project, funded through the Federal Government’s Private Irrigation Infrastructure Operators Program (PIIOP), a success for the local community.
While there have been a few challenges along the way there are many benefits that will continue to be realised well into the future. Congratulations to everyone who was involved throughout the project's life-cycle.
The opening was also an opportunity to pay tribute to the “godfather” of the NIBM scheme, the late Bryce Crawford. Bryce made a significant contribution to the scheme over a period of almost 50 years and his efforts laid many of the foundations to make the NIBM scheme what it is today.
